〈Hyakumangoku Tour Route〉Tea Ceremony Culture Experience Program 2026

〈百万石回遊ルート〉茶道文化体験プログラム

This program is meant primarily for visitors to Japan as an opportunity to experience a part of the culture of Kanazawa through tea ceremony.

Authentic Japanese Tea Ceremony Experience
Join us for an authentic Japanese tea ceremony experience led by a certified instructor who has received an official license from the Grand Master (Iemoto) of the tea school. This is a rare opportunity to encounter the spirit and aesthetics of Japanese tea culture in an authentic setting.
Casual Tea Experience (13:00 – 14:00)
No reservation required. Visitors are welcome to drop by and enjoy a relaxed outdoor-style tea service (nodate). Each session lasts about 20 minutes and offers a casual way to experience Japanese tea culture.
During this time, guests can:
  • Enjoy a bowl of matcha prepared in a traditional style
  • Visit and explore an authentic tea room
  • Listen to explanations about tea ceremony in English
  • Ask questions about tea culture and traditions
This casual program is perfect for travelers who would like to stop by between other sightseeing destinations.
Full Tea Ceremony Experience (15:00 – 16:30)
This session offers a deeper and more formal tea ceremony experience inside a traditional tea room.
Guests will have the rare opportunity to observe a formal tea preparation performed by a licensed tea master. Even for many Japanese people, witnessing such a demonstration by a certified instructor is a special and uncommon experience.
In the second half of the program, participants will also have the chance to prepare their own bowl of matcha under guidance.
The tea ceremony is an important cultural tradition that developed alongside the samurai culture of Kanazawa. We warmly invite you to experience this beautiful aspect of Japanese heritage.

【閑清庵(Kanseian)】 This tearoom was built when the Bunka Hall was constructed as part of the Kanazawa 400th Anniversary project. It is made up of two sections: a main four-and-a-half-tatami room and an additional room with table and chairs. The main room is enclosed by two corridors (three- and four-tatami). If you remove all the partitions between the rooms, they can be used as one spacious twelve-tatami room.
